Story Behind the Song:
We have been ending a lot of our presentations with this song for several years. The theme of this song is to surrender to the Lord and let Him lead our lives on a continual basis. To do this, we must let go of the past and move ahead in the plans He has for our lives. This requires trust, leaving all fear and doubt behind.
“Traveling On” was birthed over a decade ago with the lyrics and melody from Joanie. When we started working on the song, Brad immediately gave the song a unique interlude and ending with his acoustic guitar, almost with a bluegrass flair.
Last year, when we went into the recording studio with Corey Pavlosky, our producer in Virginia, the song morphed into a cool jazz vibe. Brad still used his great acoustic licks, but he added some very interesting electric riffs with his Les Paul and the magic happened!
About Alabaster Grace:
Long before this pair of licensed ministers met and started their musical ministry as Alabaster Grace, Brad and Joanie each learned to cling to God’s promises. Especially dear to them is Romans 8:28 – “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose (NRSV).”
Perhaps, then, it’s only fitting that Alabaster Grace was named after their collective desire to, as Joanie says, “give God our best and complete worship because of the priceless gift of grace that He freely gives to us.” Alabaster represents our best for God. It refers to the woman who poured the precious ointment from her alabaster jar on Jesus’ feet and wiped it with her tears (Luke 7:36-50). She gave her best for God and worshipped at His feet. Grace is his priceless gift that none of us deserve. Alabaster represents our best for God, and Grace represents his priceless gift of salvation to us that none of us deserve.
“It doesn’t matter how old we are; we’re never too old to serve the Lord,” says Joanie. “Every single thing that we’ve gone through has been for a reason so that when we minister, we’re able to relate to people and encourage them in their lives. Our ministry is all about surrendering to the Lord and letting Him flow through us!”
“And we want to be obedient servants,” adds Brad. “It’s not about us. It’s about drawing others closer to the heart of God through song and worship and offering everyone hope and encouragement. With our song lyrics being Scripture-based, we pray that people will search out and read their Bibles after hearing the music. We just want to be good and faithful servants with the talents and the gifts God has given us.”
Ever since they met in 2012 and began ministering through music and then married in 2015, the things that God has been teaching them along the way have been poured into a steady stream of concerts, leading worship, and sharing sermons and inspirational presentations in churches, retreats, conferences, and coffeehouses.
To date, Brad and Joanie have released four CD projects, Alabaster Grace, If My People, Before Your Throne, and most recently, The Savior Is Calling. They have also released seven singles, including “Let Your Fire Fall" and “All Together for Good.”
Regardless of each song's musical style or topic, Alabaster Grace hopes to be a beacon of light to everyone, meeting them where they are and pointing them to Jesus. Connect with Alabaster Grace online at alabastergraceministries.org.
Scripture Reference:
“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12-14 ESV).
